Texas Irrigation Industry Looses Two Pioneers

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the loss of two great industry pioneers. Both Delancey Spain and Carl Causey passed away this week. Each made enormous contributions to the Texas irrigation industry as well as the Texas Irrigation Association.

Delancey Spain, age 57, passed away December 1, 2015 from Late Stage Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease. She was one of the first women licensed in Texas in 1980 as a Landscape Irrigator, the first female president of the TTIA (Texas Irrigation Association), and one of The Toro Company's first female sales representatives. Delancey served with The Toro Company for 12 years in both the Central United States and Florida territories developing long-term business relationships, conducting many training sessions, and making numerous life-long friends. A celebration of her life will be held will be held on Sunday December 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 401 S. Main Street, Duncanville, TX. Delancey loved her outdoor gardens. Flowers in her memory may be sent to Jaynes Memorial Chapel, 811 S Cockrell Hill Rd., Duncanville, TX 75137. Gifts in lieu of flowers may be sent to The Alzheimer's Association.

Carl Causey, age 84, passed away December 2, 2015. He served in the U.S. Airforce from 1952 through 1956 and spent some 20 years in the newspaper business before switching to irrigation in 1973. Carl joined the TTIA (Texas Irrigation Association) before irrigators were even licensed and was later "grandfathered" into the licensing program as LI0000065. In 1983 he was awarded "Irrigator of the Year" by the then TTIA president. Carl was an active TTIA member, served as a trustee for several years and later as board president. In 1975 he became editor of the TTIA newsletter and also served as executive director. Carl served on the Texas Board of Irrigators and the Irrigation Advisory Council. He was the first to be nominated and inducted into TCEQ's Emeritus Program. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Trinity Bible Church, 4936 I-20 East Service Road South, Willow Park.
Our thoughts and prayers are with each of their families during this very difficult time. Both Delancey and Carl were dearly loved and will be greatly missed by family, friends, and associates.
